With a master of English skills, you can go around the world. From business negotiation to the communication between delegates in world forums, from academic exchange to the acquisition of the latest information on IT field, all you need is English. Naturally, many people thus raise a question: how to learn English well with reasonable and effective methods? Based on my personal experience, what is of the greatest importance lays in the following points.

First of all, in regard to the practical use of English, we should have a fairly good skill on speaking and listening. As for speaking, imitation comes first. That is to say, we should spend much time to read after the native speakers’ recorders so as to imitate their pronunciation, stress and intonation. In today’s markets, there are many classic American series such as Friends, Desperate Housewives, Boston Legal, etc. All these are excellent resources for an English learner not only to improve their pronunciation but also to obtain the knowledge of American cultures. However, although it may sound exciting and interesting, great efforts are needed if we really want to do it well and to achieve our goal of being a skillful English user.

When it comes to listening, it is quiet common for most of the learners to download mp3 recorders from the online website. This is, undoubtedly, a right and useful method. But how do you deal with all this records? It may not be recommended if you merely listen to the recorder once or twice without leaving any useful information in your mind let alone to improve your English skills. In such condition, doing dictation may become the best way. It can practice your listening and enlarge your vocabulary at the same time.

Admittedly, if we are going to attend an examination, no matter domestic or international, the skill of writing and the speed of reading are also essential. To solve these problems, the very first thing we should do is just one: read, read and read. The reason is obvious. Only through reading can we run into the largest number of new words and it is admittedly the fastest way to expand our vocabulary. Moreover, a perfect sense of English is cultivated by large amount of reading. As for me, the sense of English functions most in writing. Certainly, apart from reading, it is necessary to have an English-English dictionary and a briefly written grammar book at hand. To be a good English learner, we should make our sentences simple but informative. Reading and writing are two elements which are inseparable. Consequently, when your reading skills improved, your writing can to same extent come to a new level accordingly.

At last, I have to say, learning English is a hard and long way. We need perseverance and persistence. When you really become a master of English, a more colorful world will present before you.
